God of Battles at the ELMS club

I managed to get another game of God of Battles in at the ELMS club in Leeds last night.

The opening moves

Orcling outriders and chariot on a flanking move
We played a 36point game with my Orc Warlords against Rob's Dwarves in a scenario which lead to my orcs trying to poison a patch of ancient woodland while the dwarves tried to protect it, with the possibility of a treeman type coming to their aid.

Just before the drake ate all my orcs!
Rob''s lovely dwarves
My orcs got soundly beaten, though did manage to poison one patch of woodland meaning it wasn't a total whitewash (so I keep telling myself). We had a cracking time though and got finished in plenty of time (Rob's drake helping with that!).

Wolf Riders
I can't recommend God of Battles enough, every game we've played has been fun and there's plenty of depth to it despite it running along a good pace. I've another game scheduled for next week, I haven't decided if I'll run the orcs yet or maybe the mercenaries, we'll see...

Ironskins getting eaten by a drake

Thats how to use chariots! If only I could roll dice!

The treeman appears!

Thaw of the Lich Lord Part 1

We kicked off our Lich Lord campaign at the ELMs Club last Thusday. I took a Necromancer with an apprentice, 2 archers, a tracker, a thief, a warhound and a man at arms. I managed to summon a snow leopard before the game as an animal companion as well.

The first scenario involves an eclipse with LOS shortening until turn 5 when there is a magical burst and then LOS increases again.

We played about 7 turns, I managed to escape with 3 treasures, Steve got 5 (!) and John only 1. Highlights included my snow leopard stalking around the table and eating a magically buffed treasure hunter and John leaping various summoned creatures at Steve.

After the game I suffered no injuries, picked up a book of bones and 2 Planes walk grimoires, meaning I can learn one, flog the other and purchase myself something expensive, tempted by a barbarian or an apothecary.

Looking forward to the next one anyway!

Cutlass

This week at the ELMS club I decided to break out Cutlass! from Black Scorpion Miniatures. It was a chance to give the rules a whirl as they've been sat on my shelf for a long time without use (Strange Grogge being my preferred piratical ruleset).

We ended up having an extra player due to a last minute drop out elsewhere, so I volunteered to umpire and let Niel and Rob play.

We played a basic skirmish out of the rulebook with start-up gangs and it went pretty well. The dreaded 8 vs 1 AU roll that I'd read about happened, but it didn't effect the game too much, but it did leave one player with very little to do for 15mins or so, which is a shame. Not sure if it'd need balancing or not - time will tell.

both players enjoyed the game, as did I, so I expect we might see it again soon.

More Frostgrave

I played another game of Frostgrave at the ELMS club this week. It was a bit of a refresher for some of the players at the club and an introduction for the others.

It ended up being a very bloody 3 all draw, with my poor tracker being taken out carrying a treasure with one move to the edge of the table!

We played using John's "Jenga-grave" terrain, which he created using some knock-off jenga blocks, wooden building blocks and some textured spray - simple and effective!

I've also started using instagram. You can follow me at KevMoon5566 for blurry phone pictures of what I'm up to!

Frostgrave in 2016

Tonight was the first game of the year down at the ELMS club in Leeds.

We went for a 3-way game of Frostgrave to remind ourselves of the rules before we have a taster session for others at the club who want to try it and before we begin playing through the liche lord book.

I took along a brand new warband with a Necromancer, apprentice, ranger, tracker, thief, two thugs and a warhound. I also managed to summon a boar that I'd just finished painting.

We played the worm hunt scenario, the worm remained particularly shy until popping up with one treasure unclaimed before promtly being clubbed to death by my opponents warbands!

Highlights included casting beauty on my heart holding necromancer, numerous elemental walls and some terrible dice rolling.

I managed to get away with four treasures out of the 9 so I'm claiming a win! It was a fun game, as all our frostgrave games tend to be.
